A CHINESE WHISPER "but didn't you say.....?

Life in China is more relaxed, now that the first semester is over. I continue my discoveries about how life in China really is, and the privileges of being a westerner. I journey south to take a well earned holiday, away from the bitter cold inland, and too enthusiastic Tai Ji teachers, who do not believe in having a rest day. How are westerners treated in Southern China? Very nicely, by nice people. I didn’t meet the bad people that I am assured lurk in every alley, after dark. Celebrating the Chinese “Happy New Year” was a new pleasure. We entered the ‘Year of The Dog’, a few parks, several temples and Aomen, the Chinese name for Macau, which is not a parrot. The police carry guns there, and unlike mainland China, gambling is legal. Most comforting of all, they have some signs in English, and they drive on the left! It's almost like home.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: The author was a teacher, in England for more than 30 years, and has now been in China for nearly two years. Looking for a change and a new challenge in life; he came to China, to teach English, to students and teachers, in a provincial university. Learning Tai Ji has become a regular pastime, and a source of great joy. He has made many friends here. The language has been a hurdle, rather than a barrier. The author has three adult children, who reside in the UK. Writing home has suppressed the feelings of separation from them and friends. What started off, as a series of emails, caused such amusement, that it has now evolved into book, in the hope that it will amuse and inform the increasing number of people interested in China.
