Adele, fairly rich, unloved housewife, meets Derek, 20years divorced, and they have a whirlwind affair, during which, she discovers her latent sensuality. A sort time into this affair, Anna, Derek's unhappy and separated daughter, arrives on the scene and at once takes a strong liking to Adele. Sick of her dead marriage, throws out her husband, and soon after, parts with Derek too. A Lovely affair with Philip, a much younger man, follows, but ends dramatically when Anna sets eyes on him. All this time, Adele is trying to fend off Anna's approaches, but, after a very violent and erotic episode with dance partner Alan, Adele is comforted by Anna, who of course takes full advantage of the situation. Some time later, Adele and Derek meet again, and this time events take a very different turn as Adele learns that birds really can fly over the rainbow
